Modify 5 a.m. notification

Greetings! Looks like I might be one of the first posters?

Quick Intro (as recommended by Wild Bill) :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: -

Name: DeWayne Stephens

Joining from: Paris, TX (the world’s second largest Paris). :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

What I’m tracking or trying to improve: I figured I would start simple and use the built in mood tracker and “attempt” to track non-prescription meds (like how often I have a headache and any correlation with other factors). *Interestingly enough, Best Life found a correlation between my headaches and full-moons, which I found very interesting!

Fun fact: One of my former jobs, after establishing a networking technology program at a community college, I had a 100% job placement with all students who completed my program over a three year period.

As one of the first posters to the forums, I’m guessing my questions/comments will have high visibility to the developers? :tada:

I really want to be able to use this app because it has some much potential, but even as a 30-year IT professional (who spent some time in UX), I still had to get AI to help me add one single prescription med to be able to track.

The following is my opinion in the most “constructive criticism” way as possible:

It seems current “Data-First” approach (treating everything as a database entry) is overshadowing the “User-First” experience.

My plan was to first learn how to use the app, then get my wife, Mom, and sister to adopt the app, but currently I’m still making sure I understand how to maneuver.

As such, here is my first scenario related to Notification Time Customization:

Currently, the “Morning Briefing” defaults to 5:00 AM with no obvious “System Time” or “Wake Time” sync. This needs a dedicated, easy-to-find time picker in the Preferences menu.

Tech specs if needed:
Samsung Galaxy S24+
(SM-S926U)
AT&T
Android version 16
One UI version 8.0

DeWayne — welcome, and thank you for a first post that does real work.

Your Data-First vs User-First framing is correct, and it’s the exact diagnosis driving Best Life 2.0. When a UX professional with your background needs AI to add a single prescription, that’s not a you problem — it’s an architecture problem, and we own it.

If you want a quick look at where the new UX is headed, check out https://www.bestlife.app — it’ll give you a sense of the direction before you see it land in the app itself.

On the 5 AM Morning Briefing specifically: this is active in-development work. The current behavior isn’t where it needs to be, and notification timing — sensible defaults plus an obvious place to set them in Preferences — is something the team is working on now. I don’t want to overpromise on exactly what ships when, but your scenario is squarely on the radar.

Two other things worth calling out:

  • That full-moon/headache correlation is exactly the kind of “huh, I wouldn’t have found that on my own” moment the platform is built to surface. If you’re ever willing to let us share that anecdote (anonymized or not, your call), it tells the story better than any pitch deck.
  • Bringing your wife, Mom, and sister on once you’re comfortable would mean a lot — thank you for even thinking about extending this to your family. A lot of the 2.0 work is aimed at making that handoff smoother and more valuable for the people you bring in.

Thank YOU!! Please Keep the constructive criticism coming. First-poster visibility is real, and feedback this clear is hard to come by.

P.S. Second-largest Paris is a respectable distinction. I’ll allow it.

The preview of the new user interface is fantastic, team!

Thanks for confirming the 5 AM Morning Briefing update is in the works. :+1:

Feel free to use my name in connection with the full-moon/headache connection. I’m happy to assist in promoting your product.

I eagerly anticipate what 2.0 brings regarding family sharing; particularly the ability to access “Mom’s current medication list” (with dosage details, etc.) for medical professionals.:light_bulb:

I have additional suggestions to share, similar to a “wish list.”

I will post them separately so others can vote on the features to aid in prioritization (e.g., 6 people favoring feature A versus 87 favoring feature B).

The link you shared about the UX direction is great. As a Certified Scrum Master, I am used to working in “Sprints” or “Iterations.” It would be helpful to see a general roadmap for upcoming features, such as from 1.8 to 1.9, if one doesn’t already exist. However, given your non-profit status, I understand your resources may be constrained.

Keep up the excellent work, team!

DeWayne

DeWayne, thank you — this is the kind of engagement that makes building this thing worthwhile.

On the full-moon/headache connection: absolutely yes, we’d love to use your name. Thank you for the generous offer to help promote what we’re doing — we’ll be in touch on specifics.

On your wish list: please do post it. Our Feature Requests channel is the perfect spot for it, and the community voting dynamic you’re describing is exactly how we’d love to see prioritization signals come in. The more visibility on what matters most to people, the better!

On the roadmap question — we do maintain a roadmap internally, but we haven’t yet published a public-facing version. As a fellow Scrum practitioner, you know how much those plans shift from sprint to sprint, and we want to be thoughtful about what we put out there. It’s on our radar, and your nudge is a helpful one.

Appreciate you, DeWayne. Keep it coming.
